Bolka (Matus Kobolka) is known as the hot guy who is into glitchy microtonal compositions and whose cap has a very wide fanbase. His work is strongly connected to glitch culture, as well as to academic electroacoustic music. He is a composer, performer and open-source enthusiast based in Bratislava. Bolka’s practice has shifted from free-improvised electronic music to more rigorous tactics embracing comedy, “genre-bending”, and repurposing popular music techniques. He aims for estranging computer music along with the ways of performing it live, which often leads to explicit abuse of technology and playful sonic outcome. He uses a custom-made software written in SuperCollider programming environment in combination with naïve hardware solutions.
In 2012, he released his glitchy, digital maximalist debut split album with Jonáš Gruska under LOM label. In 2016, he graduated from the Institute of Sonology in The Hague. Lately he has been involved with theatre sound design and with the laptop band HRB/BOL he started with his partner DJ BOL.
Psychedelic Cirkus – a band founded in the town of Zlate Moravce, Slovakia in 2000 – is currently composed of two band members: Michal_eMPe_Pekar and Tomas_Psy_Gafrik.
At the time of band’s formation, the band followed mainly the philosophy of punk and jazz, and later, since 2004 up to the present time, the band’s major focus is on electroacoustic & experimental music and multimedia.
Since 2000 the project has undergone a considerable change in progressive musical development. Psychedelic Cirkus, which once used to be a band of three musical instruments: bass, drums, guitar, has reached a phase when the production of experimental music is carried out by the means of analogue radio radio art, emission of a variety of sounds from musical instruments and microphone records recorded outside in the street or at home.
Recording and sound production has become characteristic of Psychedelic Cirkus’s original production. From the musical aspect, live performances are based on the philosophy of freedom of expression, the hardness of expression, and trips to new dimensions – and are largely improvised. Psychedelic Cirkus has had several own concerts; we have participated in the electronic music events – mostly drum & bass parties. We have performed along with DJs and cooperated with several musicians. Moreover, we have released a number of samizdat albums and cooperated with the experimental studios of the Slovak Radio.
Between 2003–2008 RED & GREY was a key project which was based exclusively on the cooperation of its two principal members Empe & Psy – this project revealed most the experimental nature of the band. Currently Tomas_Psy_Gafrik is the leader of the project. The band’s production and musical expression involves noise, radio art, ambient, break beat & bass, loops, etc. … all sounds are the output of Psychedelic Cirkus.

Uran Uran (Slavo Krekovic and Oliver Rehak) is the first music planet discovered. Despite long-tem observations, it used to be wrongly considered as a star. Uran Uran connects the past and present of music. Its atmosphere is composed of 73 % live improvisation, 25 % sampling, and 2 % traces of traditional genres and rock’n’roll. It was described as “music that leads to the onset of new, extraordinary dance forms.” The core of the planet consists of an intricate network of electronic sound elements, virtual electric guitars, and plunderhony technology.

Monika Subrtova & Daniel Kordik
Jamka is an electronic music project set up by Monika Subrtova and Daniel Kordik, who first met as philosophy students in Slovakia. After playing in various hardcore and punk bands, Kordik had gradually become more interested in the idea of making musicwith electronic devices, and when Subrtova began to share his enthusiasm for synthetic sounds and misleading compositions, they decided to explore this territory together.
Jamka played their first gig in autumn 2001 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bratislava. Using a sequencer and a sampler, they generated raw-sounding rhythms and structures. In the same year, together with RBNX and Urbanfailure, they released their first common CDr/tape, Urb Sound Systems, and founded the Slovakian Urbsounds Collective.
Jamka now reside in London, where they have established themselves as part of the local experimental scene. Using synthesizers, sequencers, samplers and various FX boxes, they touch on the darker side of techno, industrial and noise music, approaching it in their own uncompromising way. Their music is a whirlwind of colliding rhythms and fractured structures, punctuated throughout with hard-hitting sounds.

Frutti di mare was an experimental audiovisual group which utilized different concepts of playing from 2007 to 2012. Production of this group dealt with interaction between text, voice, instrumental part and real-time visual projection. Visuals and live performance of the musicians formed an interactive experience. Every edition of the FDM project follows different phenomenon. Combinations of musicians also changed from one FDM project to another. Performers from FDM are members of contemporary improvised music scene – mainly from Slovakia, but later also from other Central European countries.
The author of FDM concept and artistic leader was composer and improviser Miro Tóth.
