lowii is the Latin name for carnivorous plant and also for orchid. These plants grow profusely on the island of Borneo.
lowii is also the new audio-visual project from Jonatán Pastirčák aka Pjoni, painter Katarína Sido, and programmer Igor Rjabinin who technologically transforms live painting into light projections of coordinates and constellation. It is live animation that proceeds from the transmission of a painting into midi signal that thus also influence the concert audio component. It is based on both ambient and hustle electronics and both modified as well as classic sounds of violoncello.

The contrast is important topic here. lowii connects melancholic and nostalgic sound areas with echoes of hard beats and elements of sound destruction. One of the main characteristics here is the use of image and sound as mutually influencing components.

VooDooMan is an enfant terrible of the Slovakian underground electronic music scene. He has been composing songs since the early 90s and he has self-released 9 albums on his own label Oshipanah Records. He is an experimental auteur of the modern age – crafting his own instruments (creations such as a vacuum cleaner controlled by a sound card, designed to create high interference, disrupting and glitching his other hand-made instruments) and writing his own music software. He has not been left untouched by the outer world, however; in his oeuvre you might find traces of various inspirations – from the dark ambience of Coil through the post-industrial tensions of Download to the straight-forward songwriting of Travis. He has also broadcast his own pirate radio station and further developed his show “Radio Haluze” while working at Tlis radio. VooDooMan’s complete discography has been released on LOM in 2013.

doublefair is a solo project of Jozef Vlk (1961). His name is linked with a pile of theater, film, dance and other productions and at the same time he is also an author and producer of all the project compositions. In the past his name was pronounced with a music band of Martin Burlas Sleepy Motion and the album they have released under the label Legal records/1995. In 1995, together with an actor from his project Debris – Martin Turčan – they founded a duet Teapeak, with which they gave a concert in Bratislava Wilsonic and released a single Baumbauhteamx on a selection Groove control vol1 under the label Universal records/2000. His guests to this project were musicians Maroš Hečko and Marcel Buntaj known from the Free Faces, Jozef Lupták and Peter Krajniak – classical music performers, singer and multi-instrumentalist Veronika Wiedermannova, Bulayo – a singer from South-African Praetoria, Jana Olahová from Blue Sundown and Ana Krsmanović, accordionist from Beograd. Jozef Vlk works with sampling, synthesizers, guitars, but the basic level for his sonic structures is an intuitive work with sound. Sampling is most of all used as a repetitive tool, but more often in a sense of morphing any sound ‘input’, whatever it may be. Forming thus something like a retarded sound structure composed of individual levels, in the final result resembling a song or sound construction. Ensemble project of Vlk has the name Double Affair.

Dalibor Kocián – vibraphone
Jozef Krupa – drums
Michal Matejka – electric guitar
Petr Vrba – trumpet, clarinet

Škvíry & Spoje make use of repetitive minimalistic grooves, whereas each player adds a sound layer to the previous one almost unnoticeably and together they recreate meditative or even trance blocks of simple patterns into dense, hypnotic performances. The quartet originated before climbing Baranec mountain (2184 m), the third highest peak of the West Tatras.

This Slovak (currently Czech/Slovak) band was established in the early 1990s. The early experiments later led to ultimate death-industrial sound which brought Einleitungszeit status one of genre top-classics. Longtime original set-up changed in 1999 when P-01 (Patryc Cyber) was replaced by hallucinatory throat of Czech mamber Martin Jarolim (from VO.I.D). P-01 capitulated and still dedicates himself to his solo project Simulacrvm which debut CD Zevgma was released two years ago on Old Europa Café.

After many releases are Einleitungszeit well-known worldwide nowadays and their live performances have been seen by audiences not only in Slovakia and Czechia but also in Poland and Germany – with more then positive reaction and successful acceptance. Besides Polish tour are also planned the European and American ones for 2001 (Fire Martyr US Tour).

The very first tapes Die Menschzerstörung, Menschliche Destruktive Zivilisation and Kremation
Gesch-Lechtslos were released by Slovak Crewzine. This material was followed by LP Aus dem Laboratorium on German Art Konkret label. Another release L´accouchement des machines humaines was realized on Finnish label Freak Animal. Afterwards American cult Recalcitrant Noise took care about this project and the results were two vinyl albums R Mensch I Tanatologie (2lp) and Aus der Leichenkammer which was censored on Slovakia because of quite shocking and unacceptable cover.

During 1999 was recorded and released first Einleitungszeit CD Doba uvodu, unfortunately after split of the original set-up and leaving of Patrick. This could be called as a truly memento of the „old time Einleitungszeit”. First Einleitungszeit video release Schrei des Feuers (organic live performance 1999) was released on ars morta universum on the eve of 1999 and the second one Hirnlarm (inhuman solarized vision of live performance from 1997)on the same label a year later.

Now different labels plan re-releases of mentioned older stuff – Die Menschzerstörung CD should be released on Black Plagve, LP Menschliche Destruktive Zivilisation should appear in the catalogue of Recalcitrant Noise and LP / CD Kremation Gesch-Lechtslos will be put out by ars morta universum.

Einleitungszeit live actions are very intense, often described as „negative or destructive”, but they have more common with ecstasy when R-01 uses grinder directly on his chest (protected only with thin metal plate) or burning his hands with asbestos gloves or grinding an iron band around his neck.Sometimes, these emanations of joy could not be left without a harm; R-01 was burned or hit by electricity for many times.

The sound is absorbing, clear and powerful. Forty minutes of their stage storm brings ecstasy and feelings of transformation through sound, spirit and fire. The imagery of master-slave relationship, the embodiment of human alienation, those are information transmitted by the cyber-apostles for the next century, for hybrids and clons century.

Jacques is fictional character set in the universe of the Andrej, based in Bratislava, Slovakia (aka Zeleny Antoin). Confrontation with dreams and reality, escape from everyday routine through sound psychedelia combined with field recordings, Blade Runner, Goddard’s Alphaville, Stephen Hawking and loads of sound waves coming from various sources. Jacques’s passion for modular synthethisers and warm sounds of vintage analogue devices is processed through loads of layers, dsp, guitar pedals and other forms of available mutations. Opposed to the perfect sound and composition, his tracks are often in unfinished state with huge number of imperfectness.

Jacques Kustod is telling the stories of space, everyday life, Andrej’s mutated sound diaries and serves as platform for the cold sentimental atmosphere of electronic music trying to sound more human. Conclusion is up to the listener.

Acidmilk – synthesizers, helicon, vocals
Avoided – guitar, violin, drum machine, vocals
Hlukas – fx boxes, various sound generators

Charming Assistant is an experimental noise/ambient band from Bratislava, Slovakia. Acidmilk and Avoided are the core band members, with frequent help from hLukas of the famous Morda Noise System. Relentless walls of electronic noise are combined with heavily effected instruments which include violin, didgeridoo, helicon from a vacuum cleaner and sparse use of vocals and demented chaotic screams. They have a couple of minimalistic recordings, but they prefer playing live, for the most part improvised performances coupled with absurd video projections.

Bolka (Matus Kobolka) is known as the hot guy who is into glitchy microtonal compositions and whose cap has a very wide fanbase. His work is strongly connected to glitch culture, as well as to academic electroacoustic music. He is a composer, performer and open-source enthusiast based in Bratislava. Bolka’s practice has shifted from free-improvised electronic music to more rigorous tactics embracing comedy, “genre-bending”, and repurposing popular music techniques. He aims for estranging computer music along with the ways of performing it live, which often leads to explicit abuse of technology and playful sonic outcome. He uses a custom-made software written in SuperCollider programming environment in combination with naïve hardware solutions.

In 2012, he released his glitchy, digital maximalist debut split album with Jonáš Gruska under LOM label. In 2016, he graduated from the Institute of Sonology in The Hague. Lately he has been involved with theatre sound design and with the laptop band HRB/BOL he started with his partner DJ BOL.
